Day one. We are playing random games. This is a new Steam mechanic — for the first two days of the festival you can play random games, after which the selection becomes personalized and Steam starts suggesting games similar to the ones you play. It is meant to help sell us more games and wishlists.
A meditative game focused on an unusual visual style.
The gameplay consists of three stages: first we click on the “bursts” and a full picture appears, then we hold on the space outside the picture and the picture develops and becomes complete, then the picture disappears and you have to keep the cursor in the center — that’s it. And so on every time, every night.
After the night phase comes the day phase. Here we upgrade the amount of experience we earn, the amount of energy we have at night, the speed at which the picture develops, and other modifiers (a numbers-based meta).
The visual side of the game is strong enough to be a full-fledged USP — the visuals catch your attention and make you want to try the game. Maybe that alone will make the game a success, and we really hope so.
The atmosphere of the game (the visual plus the sound) is pleasant and good — that’s a big plus.
After the third night, the gameplay itself turned out to be too repetitive. It feels like you could click in the same spots on different pictures and still get the result. Maybe it’s intended that way — so you can enjoy the game completely stress-free, but it seems to hurt the experience — it simply got boring after 15 minutes, once it had shown all the pictures, effects, and the main upgrade paths.
