Playing Demos at Steam Next Fest — June 2026: Drown World

Day three. We are playing random games. This is a new Steam mechanic — for the first two days of the festival you can play random games, after which the selection becomes personalized and Steam starts suggesting games similar to the ones you play. It is meant to help sell us more games and wishlists.

A mining action game with upgrades. Atmospheric, pixelated, and great to play.

We dig through the ground and more. We find various materials and other elements. We grab them with a grabber and haul them to the ship. On the ship they’re processed into the corresponding resources. With those resources we upgrade: dig faster, move faster, carry more, stay underwater longer.

The game has different worlds, each with its own set of maps. The maps are procedurally generated.

The game is atmospheric — everything comes together and works well together: the mechanics, the visuals, the sounds, the narrative.

It plays well, not tedious (as games like this sometimes are). Based on the first session, it plays better than similar games.

The game’s physics are nicely done: the water, objects getting stuck in narrow passages.

For some reason the great Risk of Rain comes to mind (probably because of the rain). A definite wishlist. Good luck to the team!
