Adrenaline Rampage

Introduction

Adrenaline Rampage is a survivor-platformer. Like Vampire Survivors, but with a side view and in 3D. This genre is also called Bullet Heaven (Survivors-like, reverse Bullet Hell).

Development History

The game was developed for a long time, from 2021 to 2025, and it was difficult - with investment gaps and a genre shift.

At first we decided to make Stardew Valley in a skyscraper setting: you inherit an abandoned skyscraper and can do whatever you want with it - repair, clean up, rent out. In short, you fix up the first floor, bring in tenants, they pay rent, and with that money you open the next floors. But we got bored - we gave the character an assault rifle and filled the level with enemies. It became fun to play ))) And it was 2022 - the start of the Vampire Survivors hype. We fell in love with VS gameplay and decided to make our own survivor with a side view.

We released in early access in 2024. In 2025 we met a console publisher who took on the port and release. On October 17–18, 2025 we released on Steam and consoles. In early 2026 we finished minimal mobile porting - the goal: to understand user acquisition costs and decide whether to port fully or the game isn’t worth the adrenaline ;)

Game World

Thirty years ago the space city disappeared without a trace. And now it suddenly returned - the same silhouette, but already disfigured by strange growths.

To check the situation they send “Adrenaline Rampage” - an elite squad. They’re only asked to take a quick look at what’s wrong with the city. But right after landing a new disappearance happens: the city vanishes again, this time along with the squad.

Now the fighters’ main goal is to get home. To do this they need to fight their way to the bridge, take over control, and pull the city out of the unknown. The problem is that inside it’s swarming with hordes of techno-zombies.

Gameplay

It plays great, with a controller - simply excellent. There’s a free demo on Steam, works well on Steam Deck.

The game has three unique characters. We chose between “many but similar” and “few but unique” - we went the second route, like in Slay the Spire: each character has unique mechanics and skill sets.

We implemented familiar build-crafting and skill evolutions. Progression happens between stages, like in Brotato. There’s a short tutorial.

Game loop:

  • go on a raid (core gameplay) - destroy hordes of enemies, earn resources, unlock new content;
  • return to base (meta-gameplay) - unlock access to new content, upgrade characters, switch character.

Base

Side view. The base consists of four floors. The first floor is open by default, the others need to be unlocked for different resources. Resources can be earned in raids, as well as from achievements and victories.

Skills

Skills are very diverse - active and passive, most activate automatically. But there are also unique ones with special controls. For example, if you upgrade dash to evolution, holding the button makes the character continuously dash, bumping into obstacles, bouncing off them and exploding at impact points - like a crazy explosive ball.

Enemies

Enemies are techno-zombies. According to the game’s lore, the space city’s AI creates different types of creatures from organic material with tech guts. It combines parts of some enemies with others, tries variants - this is how the main antagonist tries to find the key to defeating the heroes.

Characters

Characters are members of the elite “Adrenaline Rampage” squad. Each has their own unique main weapon. You can also equip characters with additional weapon types and skills - different characters have different extra weapons so that builds vary significantly.

Assault - main weapon: assault rifle. Balanced character, good for learning the game.

Berserker - main weapon: axe and hammer. Focus on melee. Attack speed increases with each hit - it pays to be “in the thick of it” rather than hiding on platforms ;)

Sapper - main weapon: mines. By default has no direct attack weapon - this sets them apart from others. Jumps on explosions, has access to an arsenal of different explosive weapons.

Game Modes

Survival - classic genre mode. The space city is divided into locations, each with several difficulty levels. Levels differ in enemy strength and composition, not just higher HP - more varied and interesting.

Campaign - classic campaign with a clear story. Complete all levels, defeat all bosses, discover the world’s secrets. In campaign the player gets artifacts on bonus levels and for defeating enemies (similar to Slay the Spire).

Genre Features

Survivor-platformer means everything in the game follows physics, there’s gravity. Character movement isn’t as predictable as in top-down survivors. A major difference - vertical movement: the character falls down, speed is high, visibility is limited. Same for jumps and dashes affected by gravity. You can’t “just make another survivor” - you need to invent new design.

Despite sales challenges, we consider Adrenaline Rampage a good game ;)
